WHEE!! The first ever F1 night race was just over 15 hours ago and boy do i have lots to say about it. Not about the race of course since i don't consider myself a fan of F1(it's a rich man's sport you see..). I watch it just like i watch the World Cup. Simply to join in the fun and excitement of it all and even more so since Singapore is the host of this race.

First and foremost, i just realised how much fuel is consumed in the entire race. I saw some teams refuelling over a hundred litre of fuel at the pit stops and boy was i stunned!! No wonder we're running out of oil when these races can consume up to thousands of litres of fuel. And it's all just for a competition! No wonder it's a rich man's sport...

Secondly is the whole "first ever F1 Night Race" advertising. No doubt it's a night race but the lights that are on during the race are so blindingly bright that no one will know it's night unless you look at the sky. It's just all an advertising gimmick and to boost our tourism when "millions of viewers all over the world see our beautiful sky and lights when watching the race and want to see it for themselves first-hand". The thing is, i think most people watching the race will be too engrossed with the race itself to even notice the beautiful sky, and throughout the race, there were only a few shots where the sky can be seen. But maybe it's sufficient as people watching the race will be jolted out of their trances by the wonderful sight beheld.

Finally i have a little suggestion to make. Maybe Singapore should instead hold another form of F1, and no, i do not mean a night race, but another form as in a race whereby solar powered cars are used. They do have these cars right, and it'll make full use of the strong sunlight that Singapore gets almost all year round. Instead of being held at night, it'll be held around 12 to 3 pm where the sun is the strongest. And it's so much more environmentally friendly compared to what just went on last night. And it'll still remain a rich man's sport since solar panels are super expensive.
