I Am Sam

I watched "I Am Sam" on the Saturday night M1 movie. It's such a nice show! It's about this mentally retarded man with the intelligence of a 7 year old fighting for the custody of his 7 yr old daughter. His daughter loved him a lot despite his disability but when she started school, because her classmates laughed at her father, she told them that she was adopted. Social workers knew of his disability before and when they heard what his daughter said, they decided that he is unfit to look after his daughter and wanted to take her away for adoption. He got the help of a lawyer for free, though not willingly at first. The lawyer, seeing how much father and daughter loved each other, started reflecting on her own strained relationship with her son.
It's a very touching show about family love. It also changed the way i look at people with disabilities. A man, though having only the intelligence of a 7 yr old, knows how to love, compared to us normal people, whom i think the word "love" is very unfamiliar to. It really makes you reflect about your own life and is very inspiring.
Of course, it helps that there are no commercials to disrupt the "build-up of feelings".
I love the scene where the father was reading "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr Seuss to his daughter. It's so heartwarming and it's amazing how matured his daughter is.
